Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions families, volunteers, and donors ask us most. Don’t see yours? Send us a message.
Where are you located?
Our farm is at 4901 Neal Road, Fort Myers, FL 33905. We serve families across Southwest Florida, including Lee, Charlotte, Collier, and Hendry Counties.
Can I visit the farm?
Yes. Visits are by appointment so we can give you our full attention and keep the horses on their routine. Send us a note to schedule a time.
What ages do your programs serve?
Our programs serve kids from kindergarten through 12th grade, and some, like the Family Enrichment Program and Gus & Stormy’s Storytime, are designed for the whole family.
Does my child need horse or riding experience?
No. Kids of all experience levels are welcome. Many of our programs happen on the ground through grooming, leading, and groundwork, and our EAGALA sessions involve no riding at all.
What is equine-assisted learning?
Equine-assisted learning uses time with horses to build confidence, communication, and emotional regulation. Horses respond to body language and emotion, which gives kids honest, in-the-moment feedback. It doesn’t require words, only presence.
What is EAGALA?
EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) is a widely recognized model for equine-assisted mental health. Every EAGALA session is ground-based and led by a licensed mental health professional and a certified equine specialist working together. Learn more about EAGALA sessions.
How do I enroll my child?
Reach out through our contact form or call (239) 810-5328. We will talk with you about your child, help you find the right program, and share the next start date.
How much do programs cost?
Costs vary by program. We offer free and reduced-cost programs thanks to our donors, and no family is ever turned away over cost. Ask us about a specific program.
Can you make referrals or work with our agency?
Yes. We welcome referrals from schools, shelters, counselors, and social service organizations. Contact us to talk about a referral or partnership.
Can Stormy visit our school or event?
Stormy, our miniature horse ambassador, visits schools, libraries, shelters, and community events across Southwest Florida. Request a Stormy visit to check availability.
How can I volunteer?
Fill out the volunteer application on our Get Involved page and we will reach out about next steps and orientation. Volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Animals & Kids, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, EIN 81-3704022. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law, and Zeffy emails your receipt automatically.
Are there other ways to give?
Yes. You can send supplies through our Amazon Barn and Kids Program wishlists, become a corporate sponsor, or connect us with a grant opportunity. See Get Involved for all the options.
